Currently, the Stonewood Police Department is comprised of the Chief of Police, two full-time police officers, and two part-time police officers.

Introduction and Bios

Chief of Police

In January 2025, Josh Thomas was appointed as the Chief of Police. Chief Thomas has over 24 years of experience in Law Enforcement and 8 years of experience as a Police Chief. He previously served with the Weston Police Department for over 20 years before retiring.

Patrolman Andrew Moore

Patrolman Moore has 6 years of law enforcement experience. Patrolman Moore has been with the Stonewood Police Department for 3 years. Patrolman Moore previously served with the Clarksburg Police Department.

Patrolman Joe Matheny

Patrolman Matheny has 10 years of law enforcement experience. Patrolman Matheny has been with the Stonewood Police Department for 1 year, having previously served with the Clarksburg Police Department.

As your Police Chief, I keep an "open door" policy with the community. I encourage members to contact me by telephone, email, or to meet in person to discuss issues they are experiencing. If you have an emergency or need emergency assistance, I encourage you to contact 911, as this will be the fastest way to have an officer dispatched to assist you. For non-emergency situations, you can contact the Harrison County 911 center non-emergency number at 304-626-4900 or the Stonewood Police Department at 304-623-2919.

The phones at the Stonewood Police Department are not staffed and monitored 24 hours a day.
